McAdam boulder: orbicular diorite (Photo credit: Anita363)This Friday (2/24/12) , the University of Massachusetts Lowell Qualitative Research Network is hosting a wonderful speaker/workshop event. Dan P. McAdams from the Department of Human Development and Social Policy at Northwestern University will be our featured speaker at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center. Professor McAdams is a pioneer in the study of and theory regarding "life stories".
I am embarrassed to say that when his name was raised, I was ignorant of his work. I have been studying up, however, in anticipation of tomorrow, and I am so excited that he is going to be on campus. How is this for a title "Stories of Commitment: The Psychosocial Construction of Generative Lives"...does that sound rich or what?!
His work raises important possibilities of intersection with my "Journal Project" that I hope to ask him about.
A very interesting component of his approach is the ways he is mixing qualitative research with various quantitative measures. In terms of mixed methods, there is much to be learned from these examples.
[In looking with Zemanta for a photo of McAdams on the Internet, I came up with something called the "McAdam Boulder" which has nothing what soever to do with Life Story and Professor McAdams work--but I love the texture!]
